As reported by Ben Smith in the Politico, the White House – or somebody – closed Lafayette Park when six uniformed members of the military handcuffed themselves to the fence in front of the White House to protest “don’t ask, don’t tell”. Regardless of what one might think about the DADT policy, it’s pretty much unprecedented to close Lafayette Park. As shown in the following video, the police actually backed up reporters and chased them away as well.
As reported by Mediaite, the police eventually reconsidered and allowed the press to return – but not, apparently, the general public.
Odd, very odd.
