We’re never pleased to see radical Islamists on our college campuses, but UC Irvine is in a class by itself, apparently fostering the lack of civility – to put it mildly – that we’ve come to expect. The latest incident occurred when Israel’s ambassador Michael Oren attempted to lecture on campus. Eleven protesters from a well-organized contingent – backed by the Muslim Student Union – were arrested.
As reported in the Jerusalem Post, the disruption began with a protester shouting, “Michael Oren! Propagating murder is not an expression of free speech!” The proceedings spiraled down from there as the video shows.
It’s quite amazing that “tolerant” progressives aid and abet murderous intolerance, as Mark Steyn noted yesterday. When Israel’s Deputy Foreign Minister attempted to speak at the Oxford Union, he was met by a protester screaming the Arabic phrase “Itbah Al-Yahud” [Slaughter the Jews].
But not to worry, right?
