Harry Reid, ObamaCare and Political Spoils: the British Example

In my prior post, I noted that both the Senate and House versions of ObamaCare are riven with political favoritism and payoffs. In practice, health care becomes a political wedge issue leading to economic and even sectional strife, depending on the ever-shifting allocation of benefits and burdens.

That’s what’s happening in Britain today. As Wales and Scotland have devolved from Westminster and organized their own parliaments, a similar movement has organized itself in England. Calling themselves ‘The English Democrats’, the party advocates a devolved English parliament and an ‘English’ national identity similar to that claimed by Scotland and Wales.

While the new party hasn’t had much electoral success thus far, it does know how to exploit a grievance. And one of those grievances is the uneven allocation of National Health Service resources between England and Scotland.

Watch and learn.
