Today it was my privilege to attend a luncheon hosted by the Maine Heritage Policy Center in Portland. The featured speaker was Dave Walker, President of the Peter G. Peterson Foundation, and former Comptroller General of the United States. Walker is leading a “fiscal sanity” roadshow around the country, warning in graphic fashion about the end-game if we don’t get our financial house in order and control entitlement spending.
While Walker fancies himself as an Independent and a man of the “moderate middle” – he’s against tax cuts, for instance – his message concerning the entitlement, “live for today” culture is timely.
His presentation is contained in the Citizens Guide found on the foundation website. It’s worth studying with great care and a big glass of your favorite adult beverage. You’ll need it.
