I was afraid of this.
When Sgt. Leon Lashley and Officer Kelly King stood up for their colleague Sgt. James Crowley, I was waiting for the “authenticity police” to weigh in. And we didn’t have long to wait, it seems. Apparently, Sgt. Lashley has received numerous uplifting and enlightened communications accusing him of being an “Uncle Tom” (itself a racialist epithet) for standing up for his friend and colleague.
Lashley was upset enough to give Crowley a letter to take to Hope ‘n Change. According to CNN, the letter states in part that Harvard Professor Gates “may have caused grave and potentially irreparable harm to the struggle for racial harmony.” Here’s the CNN video:
This is thermonuclear stuff and all I can say is that Crowley is one lucky bastard to have friends like Lashley and King. We should all be so lucky.
