Evan Thomas is a sucker. The only questions remaining are (1) how big, and (2) what flavor. He seems to be characteristic, however, of the fawning, groveling, lick-spittle adoration rendered Hope ‘n Change by a sycophantic media.
Although many others – including Ed Morrissey and Powerline - have flagged this piece of personal obeisance, I include it here as a response to my own gag reflex. Here’s Evan Thomas and Chris Matthews in a collective droolfest, with Thomas talking about Hope ‘n Change being ‘above the world’ and ’sort of god’:
EVAN THOMAS: Well, we were the good guys in 1984, it felt that way. It hasn’t felt that way in recent years. So Obama’s had, really, a different task We’re seen too often as the bad guys. And he – he has a very different job from – Reagan was all about America, and you talked about it. Obama is ‘we are above that now.’ We’re not just parochial, we’re not just chauvinistic, we’re not just provincial. We stand for something – I mean in a way Obama’s standing above the country, above – above the world, he’s sort of God. He’s-
MATTHEWS: Yeah.
THOMAS: He’s going to bring all different sides together.
And Thomas is an editor of Newsweek. Small wonder that the folks at The Corner have had so much fun with their mockup Newsweek cover.
Should we practice genuflecting? Is there a school?
