A Defense of Israel – Updated

I rather thought that Shimon Peres was a bit of a duffer and well past his prime. But his impassioned defense of Israel at the Davos Conference this week brought me nearly to tears and the crowd to warm applause.

It didn’t seem to impress Turkish Prime Minister Erdogen, however, who launched into a tirade and stormed off the stage. Erdogen is, of course, an Islamist who’s well on his way to undermining secular democracy in Turkey.

Little known fact: Turkey and Israel have long enjoyed pretty good relations. But that might be coming to an end. Oh, yes – Hamas was flying Turkish flags in Gaza after Erdogen’s antics.

Peres’ speech comes in at 39.20. Erdogan’s tantrum thereafter. H/T to Charlie Johnson at LGF.

UPDATE – David Harris has written a heartfelt ‘open letter’ to Erdogen in Monday’s Jerusalem Post.
