I’m out of town at the moment at a family gathering in greater Washington, DC, so the blogging has suffered over the last few days. I should be fully back in the saddle by Sunday the 28th after a long drive back to Maine in my comfortable, practical, planet-destroying SUV.
For your enjoyment, however, I leave you with this extract from “A Charlie Brown Christmas” in which Linus explains the meaning of Christmas to Charlie Brown – the traditional reading from the King James Version of the Gospel of Luke. When the program first aired in 1965, network executives reportedly didn’t want this reading included and were forced to capitulate by Charles Schultz himself, who gave the execs an ultimatum: either include the segment or he would walk on the project. The reading did indeed find its way into the program and has aired every year since 1965 – a happy matter for all of us who love both the Gospel and Charles Shultz.
