Mumbai Update

in Terrorism

We’ve all been watching the Mumbai massacre, which is still ongoing as of noon eastern time. Allahpundit has done a very good job of doing a news roundup, so no need to do the same here.

The real question, of course, is who’s responsible? The world certainly wonders. As several have pointed out, India has two choices: it can admit to a serious internal intelligence failure or accuse a foreign government, namely Pakistan. And finger-pointing has apparently already begun.

According to news reports, Pakistan has dispatched its intelligence chief to India, perhaps in a bid to avoid war between the two countries. The U.S. has dispatched a FBI team to Mumbai as well.

Obviously, a war between India and Pakistan would be disasterous. Both have nuclear weapons and both seem willing to use them against the other. Any war would doubtless destabilize Pakistan entirely, with U.S. and coalition troops landlocked in Afghanistan. Not a good situation.
